I have always loved prawns and this is one dish, which passed
down to me by my mum, I love this dish and can have it at any moment of the day
with a steaming bowl of rice. Here is the authentic recipe of Prawn curry.
Ingredients:
- 500 grams of prawn, deveined, and smeared with salt
and turmeric
- 1 tsp of Cumin Seeds
- 1 - 2 Anise
- 1 Cinnamon
- 1 Onion , chopped
- 1 Lemon Grass -
optional
- Eggplant , cut into
small pieces - optional
- 2 Potato , cut into
small pieces
- 2 Tomato, cut into
small pieces
- Tamarind (1 tbsp, not too much as the prawn has the
sour taste)
- 5-6 tbsp of Curry Powder (Serbuk kari ikan)
- Salt for taste
Grind
paste:
- 1 small onion,
- 1 medium Tomato
- 2 cloves of garlic,
- 1 one inch piece of Ginger
(Grind them together with adding title water as the tomato kind of juicy. We do not need a smooth paste,
blend just until you do not see any big chunks of garlic/ginger)
Preparation:
· 1. First need to fry the turmeric and salt
smeared prawns in oil. Keep aside once half cooked. (2-3 minutes)
2. In the same oil, add the Cumin, Anise, Cinnamon, Once It’s release a nice flavorful smell
3. Than add the chopped onion and lemon gross. Fry till light brown.
4. Now add the Grind paste. Mix well and cook for 3 minutes, until the ginger-garlic paste lose their raw smell.
5. Add the Curry powder, potato and eggplant and fry for another minute or two, before adding Tamarind water. Mix well and reduce heat, cook for 10-15 minutes until there is no raw smell of the spices/curry powder.
6. Add prawns and tomato, cook for 3-5 minutes. (Do not cook too long as it will make the prawn become harder)
